Function / Content

This series consists of a single register in two volumes recording authorities in the northern region of the Northern Territory. Each volume has an index listing tenement number, date of application, holder, date of determination and previous tenure. A label following the index in volume 2 states:"If you require a new tenement number please refer to the all in one register at the front counter". There is a discrepancy in volume 1 in that the cover and spine are labelled such that the volume contains records for AN 1- 244 only, but the index and contents contains details for AS1-9 and a semi completed form for AC1 is in the front of the volume but not referred to in the index. Volume 1 has a copy of a memo dated 16 April 1984 between the Department of Transport and Works and the Northern Territory Government attached inside the front cover concerning reserving parcels of land from occupation pursuant to Section 178(2) of the Mining Act. This section of the Act provides the same legislative power as that provided by Section 147 of the Commonwealth Mining Ordinance. Each page of the register records the more complete details for each tenement number recording security, name of tenement, status of land, survey plan number, area, locality, map reference, registered holder, details of transfers, minerals concerned, date renewed to, date of gazette, instrument issued, authority to occupy issued, date and time lodged, former title registration, number and encumbrances. Not all details are completed for each of the entries in the register.
